Shumani helps SAME to make a difference at Forte Secondary in Dobsonville

The largest black-owned and managed industrial equipment supplier in South Africa, Shumani Industrial Equipment, has made a significant contribution to the South African Medical & Education Foundation (SAME) to provide resources and adequate infrastructure to cope with the number of learners at the Forte Secondary School in Dobsonville, Soweto.

“The school is a pillar of its community and is consistently one of the best performing schools in Gauteng. We are proud to be associated with this project as part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives,” comments Victor Nemukula, MD of Shumani.

Forte is classified as a no-fee paying school, as it serves an extremely impoverished community. As often experienced in poor communities, a lack of parental support, overcrowding, poor facilities, and uninspired learners are daily challenges.

Schools in disadvantaged communities do not have access to the infrastructure and learning resources needed to effectively teach the curriculum, as well as often being hampered by overcrowding. To address this issue, SAME affords teachers and learners access to vital learning resources in their own world-class learning environment.

“Promoting STEM in township schools has a large knock-on effect in tertiary education and the economy at large,” highlights Nemukula. Shumani is committed to CSI, particularly in the communities where it operates. The company also allocates a significant portion of its budget to skills development, focusing on hiring from local communities and directing its CSI efforts locally.

In addition, Shumani collaborates with various small and emerging black-owned suppliers as part of its enterprise and supplier development initiatives. For example, KK Towing provides logistics services, , and Mokgalaka focuses on engineering services. These companies have offices at Shumani’s main premises, and Shumani assists them in scaling their businesses to provide improved quality services.

SAME is a South African NPO-PBO that undertakes high impact community development projects. The Foundation boasts a track-record of completing over 150 projects in the last 20 years, positively influencing millions of South Africans. Its sole aim is to improve healthcare and educational facilities in poverty-stricken communities. It supplies our schools, hospitals and clinics with the equipment and infrastructure they desperately need to service the large communities using the facilities.
