PRESS RELEASE

DCD Group’s Winter Wonderland for Santa Shoe Box Project

03 December, 2014: Underprivileged children in Vereeniging have experienced the joy of the Festive Season, after receiving a ‘Santa Shoebox’ containing a personalised gift and other treats.

International manufacturing and engineering company DCD Group successfully distributed the shoeboxes to 150 children aged between five and 14 from the Japie Greyling School on Friday, 28 November 2014, as part of the Kidz2Kidz Santa Shoebox project.

Kiz2Kidz is an organisation that aims to connect people through the ‘joy of giving’. Its annual Santa Shoebox project provides underprivileged children across South Africa and Namibia with a personalised gift at Christmas time. The gifts are gathered from donations from the public, which are sorted and distributed to the children.

DCD Group public relations and brand co-ordinator Natacha Templeman says: “We distributed a list of goodies that had to be placed into the shoeboxes, ensuring that the children got a present they could enjoy, but that was also useful. The boxes consisted of; toothpaste and a toothbrush, a bar of soap and a cloth, a piece of clothing, and educational supplies, as well as sweets and a toy.”

This is the second time that the company has participated in the project. “After the success of the project last year, it was decided to participate again this year, and the response has been tremendous. The Santa Shoeboxes allow all of the staff to get involved in a CSI project,” she adds.

Templeman points out that DCD selected the same school for the project that it contributed gifts to last year. However, instead of taking a portion of the children on the list to distribute gifts to, the company sponsored Santa Shoeboxes for the kids on the bread scheme in the school. “We selected Japie Greyling School as it is a part of our community, and this is where we want to give back and make a difference.”

The DCD staff were involved in all aspects of the day, ensuring that it was special for the children. The staff were able to ‘adopt’ children from the list of students provided by the school, and put together personalised shoeboxes for the children they selected.

According to Templeman, the DCD Group will continue to participate in this project in the years to come. “We love seeing the children’s joy and excitement on the day, which we try to make as memorable as possible for everyone involved,” she concludes.
