A ‘Leading with Care’ initiative introduced by Kumba Iron Ore has had a significant impact on safety performance. Notably, the Sishen mine has achieved over eight years of fatality-free production, as highlighted in the company’s interim results for the six months ended June 2024.

Kumba’s Kolomela mine in the Northern Cape recently won a prestigious 2024 Golden Quill Award. Organised by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), the premier awards programme has celebrated strategic communication globally for over 40 years.
The project involved the integration of adumo Payouts’ card-based incentive solution into the client’s in-house app. Kolomela utilises a voucher system to recognise and reward employees for meeting safety and production targets.
Previously, employees with card-related queries or those needing to check their balance had to visit the physical voucher office, leading to long wait times and production losses, particularly for truck operators who could not afford to queue.
