Nokuphila Primary school aims to provide a good Christian education to vulnerable children of the Thembisa/Ivory Park area. The school, which has pupils from Grade 1 to Grade 4, has been operating for four years and relies solely on donors. The children are given meals at the school and food parcels are handed out to those going through extreme hardships at home.
Nokuphila Primary School principal Marj Lund has expressed gratitude for the donation, and believes that the books will promote literacy and increase the children’s vocabulary. “Reading is essential to all learning and, as such, has a high priority in the school. We are extremely grateful for this donation of books. It will encourage and enliven our reading programme by providing variety and interest.”
Lund indicates that many of the children have limited access to exciting and stimulating reading material, and this donation will fill that need. “The children will borrow the books from our school library to take home. In doing so, their excitement and progress will be shared with their families.”
Filter Focus’ partnership with Qualibooks started three years ago. COO Craig FitzGerald points out that this is a worthwhile cause that the company plans to put its full backing behind. “This initiative is very close to our hearts, as our goal is to bring socio-economic development through education.”
FitzGerald stresses the fact that children need to have a proper education, as that is where the future of the country lies. “It was also important for us to invest in a project that we could be fully involved in, and with Nokuphila Primary School, we got exactly that. I urge corporates to join in investing and partaking in this valuable and rewarding project, not just for our future, but for the betterment of South Africa.”
Established in 1992, Qualibooks has been providing books and mobile libraries to South African schools for over two decades. Qualibooks business developer Kingsley Kruger comments: “We realised that there is a big need for proper Socio-Economic Development (SED) and Enterprise Development (ED) projects, where the business owner can actually see where their money goes and how it is applied. We developed a system in conjunction with BEE consultant agencies, where companies can get maximum points for their BEE Scorecard, by supporting our SED and ED causes.”
