As a leading provider of innovative software solutions, MICROMINE aims to deliver at least one major release of each of its software solutions every year, MICROMINE South Africa regional manager Renier Strydom explains.
“These major releases typically aim to include a host of new functionalities and enhancements for existing tools, in order to keep up-to-date with market and client requirements so as to allow for continued return on their software investment. In addition, we continue to innovate with the vision of making exploration and mining easier,” Strydom comments. However, smaller service packs are released throughout the year.
MICROMINE gave a sneak peak of Geobank 2018 and Micromine 2018 at Mining Indaba in Cape Town in February, in addition to its comprehensive suite of software solutions. “Feedback from attending delegates was very positive, particularly around the much-anticipated new releases. The added features and benefits of Geobank 2018 in particular, aimed at improving its overall usability, was well received. Similarly, the numerous additions and enhancements to Micromine 2018 also seemed popular,” Strydom highlights.
Commenting on MICROMINE’s decision to exhibit at Mining Indaba, Strydom points out that “this year’s event surpassed our expectations, especially compared to last year, with seemingly a lot more interest. The number of opportunities relating to new business was refreshing, with West and Central African countries prominent. Opportunities with consulting entities also seemed to have increased, with overall interest leaning more towards mining and, to a lesser extent, exploration.”
As a total solutions provider of mining software packages, Strydom points to the current trend for easy-to-use, fast, function-rich and fit-for-purpose solutions. “This seems to be the underlying requirement from mines and service providers. Data size and complexity seems to be on the increase, and the ability to handle these large, complex data sets is becoming increasingly important. We have also seen a shift towards solutions that require less user involvement – that is, more intuitive, while promoting integration among different software solutions.”
The latter is particularly important for a supplier of software solutions spanning the entire mining cycle, as the stages of involvement within a project lifecycle differ from project to project. In this regard, Strydom’s remit is “to grow and fortify all areas of our business in Africa, with the vision of being the preferred provider of innovative software solutions, allowing customers to maximise their asset value, increase productivity, and make reliable decisions. The shared vision for the company within South Africa and Africa is to continue making exploration and mining easier by means of our software solutions.”
To ensure clients obtain maximum benefit from its software solutions, MICROMINE provides comprehensive training services to all users in South Africa and Africa by product and industry-experienced consultants. Training options include offsite training at MICROMINE Africa’s offices in Bryanston, or on-site training at clients’ premises or actual operations. Training can be provided using data training sets, or by using the client’s own data.
MICROMINE also provides post-sales support for clients, with maintenance as part of the Annual Licence (AL) scheme. The AL entitles clients to online and telephone support, as well as generic product upgrades. This includes access to service packs and new software releases such as Geobank 2018 and Micromine 2018. In addition, Pitram clients enjoy 24/7 mission-critical support.
“MICROMINE Africa is currently aiming at providing universities across Africa with software licences as part of our Corporate Social Investment strategy. We are targeting areas such as Zambia, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Cameroon. The goal is to upskill not only lecturers about the current technological changes, but also to better prepare students before they enter the working world,” Strydom concludes.
