PRESS RELEASE

The Rock Raceway is South Africa’s premier motorsport complex

Tim Stephens, aka Mr Rock, is circuit owner of The Rock Raceway on the East Rand. Believed to be the best of its kind in South Africa, this dedicated motorsport complex was chosen by Filter Focus to launch its Royal Purple premier lubricant brand at a Speed Week media event.

Stephens is also president of the World of Motorsport ZA (WOMZA). However, it is his involvement with The Rock Raceway that is his crowning achievement to date. Here enthusiasts can exercise their favourite motorsport category, backed up by first-class infrastructure, and with WOMZA’s strict rules and guidelines ensuring that safety is paramount at all times.

The Rock Raceway began with a humble upgrade of the existing Oval, followed by the WOMZA head office and the remote-control circuit, free-style park, and motorcross circuits. “Our hosting of events is unique,” Stephens points out. “Our main focus is always on the spectators, as this is the lifeblood of the circuit. Hence we always ensure they are personally welcomed and feel like full participants.”

A keen proponent of drifting, Stephens added the Drifting in Africa circuit to The Rock Raceway’s many features. This is a unique form of drag racing, with an eighth-of-a-mile drag strip running out of the Oval. Here the absence of timing devices gives petrolheads a unique opportunity to put their foot to the metal.

The dynamic circuit also boasts an array of options, including karting, pocket bikes, circuit racing for Formula N and Legend racing cars, street drags, and hotrods. In addition, The Rock Raceway has established itself as an ideal venue for corporate events, outdoor exhibitions, and car shows.

It is for this reason that leading wear-control specialist Filter Focus chose the venue to launch Royal Purple at the Speed Week media event in August 2016. Manufactured in the US by Calumet Specialty Products, Royal Purple has a full range of lubricants for all industrial, commercial, automotive and consumer applications.

“Filter Focus is proud to be associated with Royal Purple, which offers the highest level of protection, while reducing friction co-efficiency and associated parasitic losses. Significant energy-savings can be achieved with Royal Purple lubricants,” Chief Operating Officer Craig FitzGerald comments.
