Since its official establishment in South Africa in 2011, more than 500 SEW-EURODRIVE customers have received product specific and general training related to drive engineering from 17 predefined and tailor-made courses offered by the Drive Academy training facility.
The Drive Academy’s new technical trainer is Johan van Graan, who officially assumed responsibility for his post in mid-2015. He boasts a Diploma from the Tshwane University of Technology as well as P1 and P2 technicon qualifications.
Van Graan also has in-depth experience in electronic and mechatronic design and manufacturing, which will add substantial value to the SEW-EURODRIVE Drive Academy. Commenting on his appointment, van Graan says: “Training is a great way of adding value to our client base, by upskilling their staff members on our equipment, while maintaining a high standard of technical knowledge by regularly training our own internal staff members too.”
According to van Graan, the Drive Academy has the potential for growth, particularly with tertiary institutions. “We have already assisted a number of universities with training programmes in particular the PneuDrive challenge, and I believe that this can be further expanded by working in collaboration with more education and training colleges in the future,” he concludes.
