German based uvex is an internationally recognised leader in the manufacture of safety products for work, sport and leisure. The company has more than 2 200 employees worldwide, and boasts 47 subsidiaries in 20 countries. Its award-winning product line includes; eyewear, hearing protection, gloves, helmets, disposable chemical suits and accessories.

According to uvex South Africa MD Darryl Jacobs, the local subsidiary caters for the African mining, car manufacturing, oil, gas, agriculture and general industries. “In order to provide its customers with the highest degree of personal protection, comfort and health, uvex uses innovative technology in the manufacture and design of its products.”

Jacobs states that uvex and North share the same core values with regards to protecting people’s safety. “North also has a large geographical footprint in major cities and strategic towns where important mining and industrial customers are located. This has resulted in our product range becoming easily-accessible to clients in ten North branches in Southern Africa, and an additional five North branches across the rest of the continent. This is a sustainable relationship at all levels.”

The long-standing partnership has contributed to raising the PPE standards in Africa, says Jacobs. “North staff members are trained in the application of our product line. This means that customers are guaranteed to receive an extensive product range supported by excellent service, marketing and end-user training on a regular basis. By educating and training the end-users, they utilise the equipment more effectively, while better understanding their workplace hazards,” he concludes.
