This is not the contractor’s first experience with the GEM brands, as its extensive fleet already includes four SANY SMG200 graders, four rollers and five Bobcat tractor loader backhoes. Bobcat and SANY sales representative Jean Botha explains that the equipment is ideal for a contractor like White Hazy Building Construction.

The acquisition of the SANY SY215C was due to the fact that the contractor has secured a project for 5 000 government-subsidised houses. Here the hydraulic excavator will be deployed mainly for road construction for the housing development.

Describing the SANY SY215C as a “100% African machine”, Botha highlights that it is a dependable workhouse with limited electronics. Therefore it is both easy to operate and simple to maintain. Benefits include high operating efficiency, low fuel consumption and a high-comfort cabin.

The Mitsubishi engine has a rated power of 2 050 rpm and a six-cylinder, four-stroke direct-injection turbocharger and 5.86 litre displacement. The track rollers, carrier rollers and idlers use seal-in lubrication to enhance service life. The tri-grouser track shoes rolled with high-strength alloy allow for favourable contact, stability and durability.

An innovative controller with faster consumption and more accuracy reduces the response time of hydraulic elements, lowers the internal power loss of the system and increases the operating output power.

Advanced computer dynamic control technology provides for a real-time match between engine power and main pump power, while four power modes maximise fuel economy. Enhanced work equipment combines with quality hydraulic elements and circuits for increased digging force.

With construction and related services allowed under the Level 4 lockdown regulations, GEM has the necessary stockholding and technical back-up to support its clients during this period, Botha concludes.
