Women's Day will be officially celebrated in South Africa on Friday, 9 August 2013, as part of the country's overarching Women's Month - which pays tribute to the thousands of women who marched to the Union Buildings in 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. MSA Africa senior product manager HEFHC Loren Pearson reveals that, as part of its corporate social responsibility, the company will donate R1 to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) towards its ongoing breast cancer research, for every pink CANSA-branded V-Gard hardhat sold.

"The SANS 1397 approved ladies' pink V-Gard hardhat has the CANSA breast cancer awareness ribbon embossed on left side to show that the user supports a worthy cause. What's more, the range comes standard with a small size FasTrac liner to fit smaller heads. This is especially important for women in industry, as they have often in the past found themselves in the perilous position of wearing dangerously loose hardhats designed for men," she explains.

Pearson notes that the MSA range of Imagen pink ladies' spectacles is another product that the safety company is targeting specifically towards women in industry. "The MSA Imagen pink ladies' spectacles are designed to protect smaller faces, and are fully certified according to EN166 standards. The Imagen range comes standard with an indoor/outdoor anti-fog mirror lens, which provides 99,9 percent UV resistance. Additional benefits include a soft nose bridge and padded temples for cushion fit, and a pink microfibre cleaning and storage bag for added storage and cleaning convenience."

Recent studies have revealed that more than 2,6-million women in South Africa required some form of PPE as part of their work requirement.  This number is continuously increasing, and there is tremendous potential for growth in industries that include; agriculture, mining, manufacturing, utilities and construction. The push for female specific PPE is also becoming increasingly relevant, as the Department of Mineral Resources and the Department of Labour recently agreed to implement new legislation surrounding the issuing of purpose designed PPE for women in industrial operations.

As part of its value-added service offering to women in industry, MSA Africa is running a Women's Month special throughout August 2013 on the pink CANSA-branded  V-Gard hardhat range and the Imagen ladies' safety spectacles - which can now be purchased for R55 each*, thereby ensuring a minimum saving of ten percent on each item, while raising money for a good cause.  To find out more about the MSA range of ladies' PPE visit www.MSAsafety.com
