Smith owns a 30 ha pecan-nut farm in Mpumalanga, right next to the farm of his own father and brother. “I decided to support Kwagga because I wanted to promote South African businesses and quality products,” Smith comments.

Powered by Honda engines, the Kwagga range is ideal for use in tough South African operating conditions. This is due to its durability, in conjunction with Hire-It’s well-established back-up and service division offering aftersales support. The Kwagga range is supplied with a standard one-year warranty.

“The fact that Kwagga equipment is assembled locally, and uses Honda engines, makes the range both affordable and durable. As a farmer myself, I need reliable equipment, so that my farm can remain operational at all times, without me having to worry about faulty equipment impacting on productivity and the bottom line,” Smith explains.

The Kwagga range includes a welder generator that is ideal for agricultural applications such as fence erection and maintenance. “Apart from installing and repairing fences, I can also use the welder generator to run power tools such as grinders and drills, without any need for an additional power source,” Smith highlights.

Another Kwagga machine ideal for farmers is its high-pressure cleaner, used mainly to clean animal stalls, in addition to keeping larger equipment such as tractors and harvesters in spick-and-span condition. “Quality often comes at a price, but the fact that the Kwagga range is assembled locally means it is cost-effective and highly affordable,” Smith adds.

Hire It Sales Director Richard Fraser reveals that Smith’s credentials as a farmer himself made him the ideal candidate to put the Kwagga range to the test on his own farm. “The more we got to know him, the more we liked him, and I’m sure he can say the same for our equipment. Before you get your hopes up, unfortunately our Kwagga equipment doesn’t come with the man himself, but it does carry his stamp of approval!”

Fraser highlights that 2019 was a significant year for the company. Its partnership with Honda, both as a component supplier for Kwagga, and for the Honda range it sells, resulted in Hire It becoming the leading Honda power products agent in KwaZulu-Natal.

With load shedding now a reality for both home owners and businesses, Tool Time has been selling generators in all shapes and sizes across the country as handy back-up power solutions. From large AKSA and SDMO generators to inverter generators and its very own Kwagga generator range, end users have included schools, food chains, homes, golf estates, game farms, and even churches.

Last year, Hire It also managed to secure a much-anticipated partnership with Build It to stock industrial tools and construction equipment from Tool Time, commencing with its flagship store at Knowles Centre in Pinetown. “We are now an approved supplier to Build It stores across South Africa, and look forward to developing this partnership even further in 2020,” Fraser notes.

He concludes: “But who can compile a 2019 round-up without mentioning our boys in green and gold bringing home the Rugby World Cup trophy!” Smith becoming brand ambassador for the Proudly South African Kwagga range means that the goodwill generated by this fantastic achievement will be long remembered, as well being a testament to local ingenuity and toughness.
