Shakgapickle Trading & Projects Director Gaoarabe (Bobo) Lesupi, who has an engineering background, explains that she and her husband decided to start their own company in 2014 after having worked for a major gold producer for many years. “Our combined experience allowed us to offer a niche service for both underground and opencast mining,” she explains.

The new SANY SYL956 machines will be deployed for loading operations at a major gold-mining project in the Klerksdorp area. The project involves the relocation of an old mine dump to a new area, from which the material will be conveyed to a minerals-processing plant.

Lesupi explains that the company’s relationship with GEM was sparked by excellent word-of-mouth about the SANY equipment in the area. “Actually we were unaware of the brand prior to that.” Lesupi subsequently had a chance to meet with Kane, who arranged a comprehensive overview of the entire GEM range, including Bobcat skidsteers and SANY loaders and excavators.

“The service and sales engagement to date has been excellent, and we are confident that the machines will exceed our expectations in terms of performance and productivity,” Lesupi adds. The two new SANY SYL956 loaders were delivered to site at the end of April.

Kane highlights that the main advantage of these loaders for small to medium mining service providers is the low total cost of ownership due to the reliability, durability and quality of the equipment. This is supplemented by comprehensive sales and service support offered by GEM.

“Our client had clearly done their homework in terms of SANY and its competitors, and fortunately we were able to meet their specific requirements. I think a real clincher of the deal was our maintenance support, combined with the fact that these loaders are well-known for their uptime,” Kane concludes.
