Intelligent drive solutions offering bolstered by acquisition

4 June 2015
Voith is set to add even greater value to the rapidly-expanding African min-ing sector, following the acquisition of sections of materials handling spe-cialist Hese, which will be integrated into Voith Turbo’s Mining & Metals Di-vision. Hese is internationally-renowned in the mining industry for its devel-opment of the carrying belt and pushing belt drive (TT-intermediate drive).

The TT-intermediate drive allows belt conveyor systems to be operated without interruption across longer distances, while the efficiency of the system is increased. It also eliminates the need for additional belt transfers, while dust generation is reduced and the extracted grit is protected.

TT-intermediate drives are still among Hese's most important products in mining materials handling technology, alongside conveyor belt pulleys with various diameters and the Hese-developed retractable guide rail.

These are installed in the mine shaft and allow noticeably faster transits of conveyer cages in the floor level. In addition, Hese has also made a name for itself with plant components and complete systems in the field of bulk material conveyer technology.

The Voith Mining & Metals Division – into which the acquired sections of Hese are to be integrated – develops and produces coupling technologies and drive packages. The company's products are used for the extraction and the transport of raw materials in underground and open cast mines.

Worldwide they make an important contribution to ensuring that important raw materials such as coal, copper, iron ore and nickel are available to industry.

Voith Turbo, a Group Division of Voith GmbH, is a specialist for intelligent drive solutions. Customers from highly diverse industries such as oil and gas, energy, mining and metal processing, ship technology, rail and commercial vehicles rely on advanced technologies from Voith Turbo.

Voith sets standards in the markets energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials and transportation & automotive. Founded in 1867, Voith employs more than 39,000 people, generates € 5.3 billion in sales, operates in about 50 countries around the world and is today one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe.
