Kumalo is the nephew of an employee that has been in the employ of the company for a six year period. At the time he was studying towards his matric, with the bursary going towards funding these studies.

Kumalo was keen in furthering his studies in the Human Resources field, a career choice that he discussed in-depth with the Voith HR team, according to Ntsakisi Mkhize, Human Resources Manager at Voith.

“Gerald Kumalo already knew at the time that HR was his passion. However, he wanted to hear from the perspective of professionals who had already gained extensive experience within the field,” Mkhize says.

Kumalo completed a Diploma in Human Resources Management in February 2016. Prior to him graduating, the institution required him to complete practical experience before he could be certified as being qualified.

“Voith assisted by finding a company that was able to give him the necessary exposure,” Mkhize notes. This practical experience gave Kumalo exposure to essential administrative HR tasks, such as creating and maintaining employee files, and handling confidential information.
