Established in 2008, Fabcon Steel has become well-known throughout South Africa for the supply of structural and reinforcing steel. While relatively entrenched in the local construction sector, the company is currently developing a new engineering division to spearhead its diversification into other market segments.
Fabcon Steel aims to provide turnkey solutions based on engineering services in terms of drawing, design, and certification, followed by actual erection of the structures required. This gives the company a leading edge in the market, as well as setting a new benchmark for customer service.
“We pride ourselves on supplying and manufacturing a range of solutions that encompass all typical structural components found in new high-end homes, housing complexes, commercial buildings, and factories, for example. All of our products are customised to suit specific customer requirements,” Fabcon Steel Director Andrew van Gool comments, an industry veteran with 20 years’ experience.
It is this level of industry experience and knowledge that continues to set Fabcon Steel apart, as well as giving it the necessary flexibility to promote innovation, due to its skilled artisans and modern factory.
The Fabcon Steel team includes Factory Manager Andre Schultz, who has a thorough understanding of the construction sector; Factory Supervisor Pierre Engelbrecht, who has been involved in hydroelectric dams and other megastructures throughout Africa, and Workshop Detailer Dawie Venter, an experienced designer renowned for his meticulousness.
In addition, Fabcon Steel has access to two engineers for specialised concrete and steel work. The administrative office is headed up by Terry van Gool, with her high-level accounting skills. Supported by a dedicated office staff, this ensures that the factory operation receives maximum support.
The range of steel products includes, but is by no means limited to, steel portal frames, mezzanine floors, concrete staircase shutters, steel spiral staircases, central spine concrete and steel staircases, steel roof trusses, structural steel mullions, among many others.
“We recently produced steel trolleys for the Multiflora Flower Market in Johannesburg, an example of our out-of-the-box approach to our ongoing diversification,” Andrew comments. This underlines the company’s main differentiator in being a bespoke solutions provider for steel construction.
“As an independent company, we have the added flexibility to be able to service both small and large-scale projects, unlike many large steel companies who inherently have limited flexibility,” Andrew concludes.
