CBM-TEC, being hosted in Kitwe on 28 and 29 April 2014, is Zambia's premier networking event for international and regional companies that operate within the country's highly-lucrative Copperbelt region. As a result, four divisions within the DCD Group will be exhibiting their products and capabilities at a single stand. These include;

DCD Venco: A specialist in the fabrication, manufacture and refurbishment of heavy duty mechanical components of up to 50 tons per individual component. DCD Venco boasts a complete portfolio and can supply all attachments for open cast mining equipment, including; dump truck bodies, excavator (backhoe and face), rope and drag line buckets.
DCD Rolling Stock: A leading supplier of locomotives, wagons, bogies and other related equipment to local and international railways, mining projects and industrial operations.
Mine Support Products (MSP): An internationally recognised manufacturer and supplier of underground support systems, jointly owned by DCD Group and Robor.
DCD Heavy Engineering: A niche supplier to the mining, steel and energy sectors of bespoke engineered heavy mechanical equipment for specific, individualised applications. The company offers specialised machining and fabrication facilities unrivalled in Southern Africa.

DCD Group managing director Rob King points out that the separate divisions are hosting a united exhibition in order to demonstrate the Group's extensive capabilities and value-added offering to this rapidly-expanding market. "Each DCD division is recognised as a market-leading specialist in its field. By showcasing the combined capabilities at a single stand, the DCD Group is able to provide the market with the peace-of-mind that it can pool all divisional resources to ensure that it serves as a one-stop-shop that provides an entirely holistic solution to all aspects of the mining sector."

DCD Venco general manager Willem Mare notes that the company will stock a number of brochures detailing the specifications of its recently launched Gravico aftermarket attachments for surface mining equipment. "What's more, we will also have product experts on-hand to inform guests of the numerous benefits of the Gravico range of products, which include; backhoe buckets, face shovel buckets, dragline rigging and dump truck bowls, to name a few in the open cast mining portfolio."

Mare states that Zambia is of strategic importance to the Southern African mining sector, and that DCD Venco boasts the ability to offer cost effective solutions to open cast mining operations with its range of attachments that are customised for local conditions. "As a manufacturer of cost-effective new generation open cast mining attachments, DCD Venco boasts the design capability to accommodate mine specific requirements and variances to standard components to suit the local conditions. Furthermore, all of our equipment comes standard with product specific service details."

DCD Rolling Stock general manager Petrus Mulaudzi indicates that the Zambian Copperbelt looks set to receive measurable investment in rail infrastructure upgrades in order to transport the increasing amount of ore being extracted in the region. "A large capital expenditure programme and contracts signed between Zambia Railways and the various mining groups has created immense potential for measurable railway infrastructure upgrade and development," he explains.

"Since 1944, DCD Rolling Stock has produced over 130 000 wagons, 1 000 surface locomotives, 4 000 underground locomotives and over 278 000 bogies. Product experts in these fields will be present at CBM-TEC to provide visitors to the stand with a better understanding of the range, in addition to assisting them in specifying a product to a particular application."

MSP general manager Conrad Engelbrecht reveals that the company will display its proprietary underground support product, Rocprop MKII - a steel elongate support system with predictable and repeatable yielding performance. "We will also display our hydraulically set anchoring device Rocbolt, which expands to create a locking effect for maximum safety, once inserted into the rock and pressurised."

Engelbrecht believes that the Zambian Copperbelt will provide MSP with the ideal opportunity to expand its African footprint. "The Zambian copper mining industry continues to develop at a rapid rate, thanks to a steady rise in investment. As more underground projects are established and existing ones are upgraded, mining houses will be seeking support systems that ensure that the highest standards of quality and safety are maintained in a cost effective manner," he continues.

MSP is also able to provide better after-sales service and technical support in the region, thanks to the Kitwe branch of co-owner Robor, a world class manufacturer and supplier of welded steel tube and pipe, cold formed steel profiles and associated value added products. "This substantially improves communication and overall turnaround times, and I am confident of sustained long term growth throughout the Zambian Copperbelt region and beyond," Engelbrecht concludes.

DCD Heavy Engineering - a niche supplier of bespoke engineered heavy mechanical equipment to the mining, steel and energy sectors - will also be represented at the event. DCD Heavy Engineering general manager Gary Colegate highlights the fact that the company boasts extensive ball and sag mill manufacturing capabilities in the Zambian Copperbelt region for the following projects;

  • A 5.5 m x 7.9 m mill for Kansanshi project      in 2003
  • A 11.5 m x 14.5 m mill for Nechanga      project in 2004
  • A 27 ft x 40 ft ball mill for the Lumnwana      project in 2005
  • A 5.5 m x 7.9 m Ball Mill for the Kanshansi       phase II project in 2005
  • Two 20 ft x 22 ft ball mills and 20 ft x      30 ft ball mills for the Konkola project in 2006
  • Two 20 ft x 29.5 ft mills for the      Kanshansi phase III project in 2007
  • A 28 ft x 44 ft ball mill for the Sentinel      project in 2011

The DCD Group exhibitions will be taking place at Stand B01 and B02 throughout the duration of the event. To find out more about CBM-TEC visit www.cbm-tec.com
