PRESS RELEASE

Bosch User experience empowers disabled woodworker

3 March 2017: A donation of power tools from Bosch as part of its ongoing Bosch User Experience has empowered disabled civil engineer Christo Wynand to develop his woodworking skills and earn a living at the same time.

Bosch donated a GHO 6500 Professional planer and GKS 190 Professional handheld circular saw to Wynand as part of its User Experience programme, which is an ongoing record of its power tools being applied in real-life situations, Bosch Professional Power Tools Senior Brand Manager Campbell Mhodi explains.

The GHO 6500 is a powerful planer with 650 W input power for a fast planing speed. Weighing a mere 2.8 kg, the tool is comfortable to handle during due to its ergonomic cable-free design, together with its convenient lock-on switch for both right- and left-handed users.

The planer has a maximum 2.6 mm cutting depth, and an optimised airflow for wood-chip ejection, resulting in better productivity. It is equipped with two-piece HSS blades that can be resharpened so as to reduce maintenance costs. A robust grooved base plate with parking shoe ensures a secure and safe work surface.

The GKS 190 has 1 400 W input power, the highest rating in its class, for fast sawing progress in soft and hard wood. It has a maximum 70 mm cutting depth, and a 56° bevel capability for increased flexibility. The compact tool design makes for easy handling, while the turbo blower function ensures a dust-free view of the cutting line. An optimised wood-chip enhances visibility of the work surface.

All of these features of the Bosch Professional planer and circular saw stand Wynand in good stead in his new woodworking career, which he embarked upon in 2004, following a tragic accident that left him paralysed. Wynand has produced a wide range of pieces to date, from bird cages and dog houses to wardrobes and kitchen cupboards.

“I have been very impressed with the Bosch tools, which have allowed me to produce woodwork of a significantly higher quality than I would have been able to achieve otherwise. The Bosch tools are also highly efficient, which also reduces the working time dramatically,” Wynand explains.

Such has been Wynand’s success with the Bosch tools, that he plans to expand his woodworking business, and thereby empower additional members of the Olievenhoutbosch, Centurion, community in which he resides. “Now that I am equipped with Bosch tools, it will be easy to increase my scope of work,” he concludes.
