Established in 1990, the company specialises in the design, manufacture, and repair of water- and air-cooled furnace cables, water-cooled resistance welding cables, flexible connectors, industrial battery connectors, copper braid, earth sock (braided copper sleeving), cotton-covered strand and other copper related products. It also offers copper lugs and crimping ferrules as part its value-added service offering for its customers.

The Band-It product is used specifically for water-cooled furnace cables, where the DC electricity supply will cause any strapping material other than stainless steel to become magnetised, and subsequently heat up and even melt, explains Basil Cherry, Managing Director of Copper Cables & Connectors.

Banding & ID Solutions Africa Business Manager Rosa Dos Remendos adds that the Band-It Giant Band & Buckles are manufactured in Grade 201 stainless steel specifically for heavy-duty clamping applications such as this. It is packaged in 30 m rolls and is available in 19.05 mm, 25 mm and 32 mm sizes. Application is by means of a special G402 Giant Tool.

“Double-wrapped clamps are recommended for maximum strength,” Dos Remendos stresses. Such has been the success of the Band-It product in this niche application that Copper Cables & Connectors has used stainless steel band and buckles since the company’s inception.

Cherry reveals that the Band-It product has successfully withstood pressure testing on its water-cooled furnace cables in particular. “The stainless steel band-and-buckle system is far superior to the traditional nut-and-bolt system,” he highlights.

In addition, Copper Cables & Connectors also uses Jr Preformed Clamps from Banding & ID Solutions Africa. These are vibration-resistant and require no hammering or crimping, and can be locked automatically in one simple lever movement.

The Jr Preformed Clamps are available in Grade 201 stainless steel or galvanised carbon steel. Sizes range from 6.5 mm to 9.5 mm, 12.7 mm, 15.8 mm and 19.7 mm. They are packed in boxes of 100, 50 or 25. Application is by means of a C001 Band-It Tool with either a Band-It J001 Jr Adapter Accessory Tool or Band-It J050 Heavy Duty Jr Adapter Tool.

Dos Remendos concludes that Copper Cables & Connectors is a highly successful example of a niche application where the particular features and benefits of Band-It make it an ideal solution. “We always ensure we have sufficient stock, as this product is imported from the UK. We also offer technical advice and aftersales service and support, which assists us in forging close relationships with our customers.”
