Industrial tooling and equipment supplier Dowson & Dobson Industrial (D&D), a division of Actum Industrial, focuses on supplying the plumbing and municipal sectors with fluid technology and water solutions.

Described as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of drain cleaning machines, the Ridgid K-1500SP is a mobile, all-round sewer and drain cleaning machine. Capable of cleaning lines up to 250 mm wide, it is ideal for root cutting and major blockages, with a 1 500 W motor and five 4.6 m sections of cable.

The unique, easy-to-use instant-acting cable clutch maximises operator control. When the handle is pulled down, the cable spins at 600 rpm, and stops instantly when the handle is released. An advantage is that the machine can be wheeled to the relevant job site for rapid set-up and a quick turnaround time for any cleaning operation.

Its upright frame features large, semi-pneumatic ball bearing wheels and a cable carrier. The Ridgid K-1500SP comes with various accessories and a cable toolkit, which includes straight, funnel and retrieving augers, spade and sharktooth cutters, a toolbox and a pin key.

“The low-profile frame design means that this machine will fit most crawl spaces. In addition, one person can easily clean the heaviest blockages, inside or out. The high-speed cleaning action not only gets the job done faster, better too,” comments Kevin Klaff, Actum Group director.

Klaff contends that portable and highly efficient equipment such as the Ridgid K-1500SP is vital for municipalities and local authorities to maintain their water and wastewater infrastructure. Given the general lack of maintenance and subsequent deterioration of such infrastructure nationally, these sectors face considerable challenges.

Since the Actum Group’s acquisition of D&D in April this year, the focus has been on punting niche products such as the Ridgid K-1500SP. “There is a definite opportunity in the water and wastewater sector for such specialist products,” Klaff notes.

The longer-term strategy is for D&D to supply municipalities and local authorities with a ‘one-stop’ solution for their full water and wastewater requirements.
