A-Gas South Africa has played a leading role in ensuring that the local HVACR industry meets the requirements within the regulatory framework established under the Montreal Protocol, which is an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of numerous substances responsible for ozone depletion, MD Johnny Scott explains.

A-Gas South Africa is segmented into five business units, namely Refrigerants, Environmental Services, Industrial Special Products, Fire Protection and Performance Chemicals. Scott has been with the local company since its inception, beginning his career as technical assistant, and progressing quickly to become operations manager through to Managing Director South Africa.

"Through the wider A-Gas network, we see ourselves as being able to think globally and deliver locally. Our global knowledge and reach, combined with significant investment in bulk storage, equipment and cylinders, ensures we can deliver the latest technologies and products,” Scott comments. A-Gas South Africa’s primary focus is providing a ‘total solutions’ offering to its respective markets, leveraging off its global technical skills.

The growing trend for environment-friendly products has resulted in A-Gas South Africa actively promoting ‘cradle-to-grave’ product stewardship. “We have a unique environmental service offering, whereby customers have the option to return unwanted and/or contaminated refrigerants to be recycled or destroyed,” Scott highlights.

This is a clear example of the company’s commitment to ensuring that the local HVACR industry remains up-to-date with the latest trends and developments. In this regard, A-Gas South Africa remains at the forefront of technological development within the industry.

“We have the added benefit of sharing skills and experiences from more developed and advanced markets that the Group has established operations in over the past 20-plus years. During this time, A-Gas has built up a respected brand both locally and globally, a brand associated with quality product and high levels of service.”

In addition, A-Gas South Africa has established long-standing relationships with key suppliers and customers over the past 20 years. Metraclark has played an integral part in the A-Gas journey since inception. Metraclark is wholly-owned by Beijer Ref AB, a Swedish-based company listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.

“We have grown in tandem with A-Gas South Africa over its distinguished history to date, and we continue to support each other in our collective efforts to ensure that the local HVACR industry is provided with the same high-quality products, information and service as in Europe and the US,” Metraclark MD Jurie Benade comments.

Another key company associated with A-Gas South Africa is RB & Son Transport Group, a dedicated and focused national logistics solutions provider. “It has been a privilege to be partnered closely with A-Gas on their exciting journey over the past 20 years. A-Gas has set the benchmark for service, and for exceeding customer expectations in a very competitive industry.

“RB & Son shares a similar ethos and culture with A-Gas when it comes to client expectations, service and delivery, allowing us to be seen as an extension of their business, meeting and fulfilling their logistics requirements on demand,” RB & Son Johannesburg MD Peter O’Donoghue comments.

Scott attributes the company’s ongoing success to the quality team at A-Gas South Africa. “Fortunately, I learnt fairly early on in my career that you are only as good as your team. I continually surround myself with passionate, dedicated people. A good, healthy culture is critical to our business. Coupled with good people, we can achieve a great deal. This is something I have always valued greatly,” he concludes.
